They just copy, paste and follow what the scene uses, no harm in asking but i suggest they will not change now the scene has mandatory new formats that they enforce.
I was also referring to something pc based like "pc on a stick" not an actual pc per say, more expensive? sure ! i believe it saves money in the long term being able upgrade vs obsolete box in 6 months.
Plenty of free software out there that can downgrade or upgrade your files to a more playable format unfortunately some cannot afford computers, their options are limited .

Better still change browsers ie; Firefox

When my PC starts to get slow as you describe I run CCleaner to clean up the crap that is stored on your computer every time you browse the internet stuff you're not even aware of like cookies etc.

Also whenever I'm running my VPN my system runs a bit slower.
If things are really bad and you feel adventurous you could reinstall your OS back to factory fresh.

I've been thinking about an Android box like that.

But, then I read the comments/problems people are having setting up the box.

For example: install build this and install plugin that unless your problem is this then you should uninstall this build and go with that build and then my eyes cross and my head begins to hurt and I give up on the whole idea.

I'd rather get a plug and play kind of thing and start enjoying my downloads on the big screen right away.

Yes, I'm not very tech savvy so I'm hesitant to spend a lot of money on something I may end up using as a paper weight.

I used to throw away media players because the software was not up-gradable.
I now stream from a laptop via HDMI solves every issue i ever had with a media player.
Unfortunately the new ones that can update have a problem with company's refusing to update after a certain amount of time (read the fine print) ergo; you are still left in the same boat.
Ideally you want to control the drivers and codecs on a system that will still be around for years to come.

The site is fine, but if you have low spec computer or haven't updated flash/java later you could get problems with all the scripts that run on this site.
Or your computer is telling you it is time for a good old fashion spring cleaning

As you say flash is both the evil and savior of the internet.
Firefox has flash turned off by default and handles it better when turned on.
I prefer chrome unfortunately it tracks everything you do on the web with no way to turn it off (just like windows 10)
I.E. is a relic that is past its time, even Microsoft agrees.
And i agree addons are mandatory at this point of time, i even modified one so as to handle scripting better on sites like this.

This topic has already been talked about. You can still read the comments on the General Discussion page if you want to.

Basically all scene groups have decided to encode in the .mkv format only.

You could use a converter such as rebox mkv to mp4 to quickly convert mkv to mp4 without re-encoding the video.

Simply renaming a .mkv to .mp4 sounds good in theory. In fact if I change the .mkv to .mp4 on a file and play it using MPC on my computer it will play fine.

The only reason I can think of that someone would want .mp4 exclusively is because they're playing the file in an older set top media player or an older portable video player or an old DVD player. Something that doesn't support .mkv and can't be updated. A situation like that. And if that's the case simply changing the file extension might not work.

You might need to change the profile or something to get it to play in an older media player.

Changing the file extension sounds like a good first step. Try it and if it works then it's all good. If not convert the file.

The other day someone mentioned Rebox MKV to MP4 software converter. I tried it on my PC just to see how it worked and it's very quick and does indeed change the file from .mkv to .mp4 in about one minute on my PC.

I don't have an old media player lying around so couldn't test the playback but anyone that needs .mp4 should know they have something to try that may work for their needs.

Handbrake will also convert .mkv to .mp4 Handbrake gives you more control more profile options but may not be as fast as Rebox.

Agreed. I was reading the .nfo of a file from the scene group cap4tv. near the bottom they include the words: "We have F*** All to do with torrents or download sites if you don't like it then F*** Off!"

Not an exact quote but close. And I think that says it all.

If only users of sites like this understood that their demands for certain things like subtitles or smaller file sizes or whatever are falling on deaf ears and that admin of sites like this can't do a thing about it.
