Here's two solutions to tame CU:

a) use JDownloader as a DL-Manager (not for the paranoid, they had a fuck-up 10 years ago that sticks forever, at least with the paranoid).

b) browser-based: install an adblocker like uMatrix that let's you block or allow every domain a page tries to pull data from. Just play with the domains. Most you do not know, especially the gibberish domain names, can be blocked. This renders their hellhole of a website to being tolerable. It has to be updated from time to time, though.

At the moment they seem to have a lot of downtime, too.

My humble advice?

Ignore the troll, even ignore JDownloader or any other decent download manager, just install uMatrix or uBlock Origin (which you should have done years ago, security, wink-wink) and block all the crap.

The only domains (including all listed subdomains) you'll need are:

clickndownload.whatever
bootstrapcdn.com
clicknupload.whatever
hcaptcha.com
jquery.com

Even then, clicking the generate link button might open a new tab with another domain you're not interested in at all. But each time that happens you can block that whole domain also.

Or don't and complain or buy a plan. Everybody's choice.

Of course getting plugins from GitHub is not "the proper method", but if you were reading, you'd have been able to find out, that on github you'll find all the "proper" links for every browser combined plus everything you need to know to use thse plugins.
