Why is the openload file so big?

@FrogDoogy

It's AVC converted from HEVC, thus it's a bigger file, lower quality, a waste of bandwidth for all. RMT's openload API needs to be updated.

@FrogDoogy Openload always tries to convert any video they get to work with the player they use which means it gets converted into an mp4 if it isnt compatible with there player. Sadly that means that allot of the releases they post on openload get converted and so if you are not fast enough to get the release before it gets converted you are stuck going with a different hoster to dl the file or just using the mp4.

Sure, but the download file and the stream file should be different. The new API supports as such and is never an issue on other sites. As for time being a factor, I don't think so. AFAIK, if it gets uploaded right it stays that way until it's removed and uploaded again. For the most part, the chances of finding the correct one are the same either way, but it does help to be quick.

You can always just download it and convert it back to HEVC.

@DoogyFroggy

You will get utter crap if you do that. When Openload converts, they use horrendously low settings. Plus, it would be the third re-encode, all of which are lossy. I tried your idea once and shuddered at the results.

@meridian

You could first double the frame size and bitrate, then encode to x265?

@peymanusa

That makes the computer try to recreate data that's already lost. It will have to interpolate from what little data is left, which will produce crappy results.

It's like taking a third generation photocopy (a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of an original), blowing it up while increasing brightness and contrast, then shrinking it down again. It will look blurry and smeared, and won't be anywhere near the original.

@meridian

But if the file is bigger the result has to be better, right?

For example, back in 1983 Nigel Tufnel demonstrated such a technique with an amplifier volume knob relabeled from zero to eleven, instead of zero to ten.

Ah, I see our juvenile troll is branching out. Your first query was believable, but your Spinal Tap reference gave you away.

It works from the source it doesn't matter if it's bigger in that instance.

The original x264 encode was optimal quality theoretically as the person captured it directly from the source, then someone in this instance openload reencodes it with lesser settings where it loses quality and now that lesser quality file becomes the new source. Each time you do this it breaks down more and more and can't retain what it lost. The HEVC encode maintains most of the quality but it still mainly depends on the source. The source that doesn't come from Openload's reencode would be better quality.
